Gold Coast swimming spot Currumbin Creek closed by council after major sewage spill

Gold Coast locals and visitors have been warned against swimming at Currumbin Creek, one of the area’s most popular waterways, after a major sewage leak this week.

Gold Coast City Council said the leak was believed to have been caused by construction work on the M1, where a sewerage main was broken on Duringan St sometime on Tuesday night.

Workers acted quickly to contain the leak, however, Gold Coast City Council said sewage still entered the creek, and there are signs now in place to notify locals of the spill.
